On September 28, Fiesta DC will take on the monumental challenge of creating the world’s largest pupusa! This attempt is part of our celebration of culture, unity, and community pride. We aim to break the current Guinness World Record and showcase the rich heritage and flavors of El Salvador to the world.

Our dedicated team of chefs, volunteers, and community members will come together to create this gigantic culinary masterpiece. The process will involve using traditional ingredients—corn masa, cheese, beans, and chicharrón—on an unprecedented scale, demonstrating the skill, dedication, and passion of everyone involved.

The Story of the Pupusa

The pupusa is a cherished dish from El Salvador, known for its thick, handmade corn tortilla filled with a variety of savory ingredients. Originating from the indigenous Pipil people, pupusas have become a symbol of Salvadoran heritage. The dough, made from corn masa, is filled with cheese, refried beans, seasoned pork, or loroco, and then cooked to perfection. Traditionally served with curtido and salsa, pupusas offer a unique blend of textures and flavors that represent the heart and soul of Salvadoran cuisine.
